I Have Come A Long Way Baby!

Today is a very special day for me. Many people would look back on this day a year ago with horror, sadness, and dread. However, I not only choose to look back but to also smile! I look back and review all of the progress I have made! I have so much to be thankful for and be proud of!

You may be wondering now what happened one year ago. I was in a very miserable and somewhat abusive marriage. I knew then I only had two choices because I could not live another day like that! I either had to take a leap of faith and leave or commit suicide! I am a Mother and I could not be so selfish as to leave my Daughter all alone so I had to muster up the courage to leave! I was scared out of my mind but I did it! I could not allow the fear of failure to paralyze me this time because I was past my breaking point!

We had to stay in the battered women’s shelter until we could get on our feet. That was an experience in itself! Not all of the women there are a joy to live and interact with. The conditions were quite rough. However, it was well worth it to get out of my miserable and hopeless marriage. As a Mother, I had to protect my Daughter was any further abuse.

My life was a complete mess one year ago! I was married to the wrong man and to say that I was miserable was an understatement. He was a liar, cheater, and abusive to us.
I hated myself for ever loving that man and marrying him. He kept me completely stressed out with his irresponsible behavior! He would rather eat out most of the time than pay the bills. Four cars were repossessed during our marriage. Our car insurance was lapsed more than it was in effect. He kept getting traffic citations. I was the one that had to fix all of his messes. I felt like his Mother more than a Wife. I was exhausted from always trying to right the wrongs and suffering from the consequences of his actions.

Well, enough about him and the past because this blog is about me and my future! I have come a long way baby! I have accomplished and learned so much over this past year!

I am back in college and I am majoring in Psychology. I am proud to share that I am maintaining a 4.0 GPA! I amaze myself every week when I get my grades!

I bought my own car and I have made every payment on time! I maintain my own car insurance without lapse! I have my own apartment and I pay the rent on time. I live quite the charmed life now compared to when I was married! My life is very peaceful and stress free as possible. You have no idea how good it feels to be in control of my own life and make my own decisions! I have so much peace of mind now!

I have healed a great deal but I still need to do more. I have not dated anyone but I feel that is for the best. I am taking time to work on me. I am getting to know myself better as well as learning to love and respect myself.

I am no longer a victim! I am now a strong and resilient woman! I may have crashed and burned but I have risen from the ashes and now I am back and better than ever! I go to bed at night with satisfaction and I wake up with enthusiasm and determination! You have no idea how good it feels to wake up in the morning and be excited about my life! It is an amazing feeling after waking up with dread and fear for so many years!

I have learned so much over the past year about myself and relationships. One major thing is that “like” attracts “like!” I have come to realize that I have been living in a self-destructive and infinite loop. My Father was abusive and I never learned to love myself. I never acquired self-esteem. I never developed self-respect. I am not placing all of the blame on my Father. I do take responsibility now and are now investing in myself and learning all of these things.

However, I now see why my love life was always so messy. I did not love or respect myself so how could I attract a man that would really do so in a healthy manner? I had no self-esteem or self-worth so I would attract losers!

As a result of this epiphany I am doing all that I can to change myself. Some people are very supportive others not so much. So I have learned to pull weeds. The people who do not support my new life get removed from my life. I only deserve the very best now!
I have learned that I am in control of me and my life! No one can hurt me or make me feel in any way that I do not approve of without my permission!

I am replacing my old bad habits with positive ones. I now go to the gym and work out at least 5 days a week. I now choose to practice positive thinking instead of negative thinking and allowing myself to be paralyzed by fear! I recite and meditate on positive affirmations daily! I try to do this at least 3 times a day!

I now do things to raise my self-esteem and self-worth. College is a big part of this! I also practice positive visualization and self-recognition for my daily accomplishments. I have learned to trust and believe in myself.

Now that I have seen what I am capable of my only regret is that I did not leave sooner. However, I realize that I cannot keep looking back. I need to focus on the here and now. I work daily on investing in my future. All I can do is look at my past mistakes as learning and growth opportunities.

5 Inspiring Steps to Give Your Life a Makeover

I am sitting here right now reflecting on my progress. I am so pleased with myself right now. I am overcoming my fears and stepping outside of my comfort zone more and more each and everyday! I am seeing progress weekly. Last week, I wrote an inspirational article and submitted it to my favorite website. I am so glad that I did not let the fear of rejection stop me. I quit making excuses and just went for it! It got selected to be published on the website! I was over the moon!  I am still so excited and happy about this! It may be a small step but it is a step in the right direction!

I have so many hopes, goals, and dreams inside of me right now! I am so filled with inspiration and motivation! I wrote two more articles tonight and submitted them! I am crossing my fingers that they get selected for publishing as well!

In the past, I allowed the men in my life to become obstacles. I always put others needs before mine. Instead of working towards my goals I always put my Husband first!  I ended up bled dry and lost myself in the marriage. This way of life did not work for me. I ended up depressed and on medication. I ended up becoming a shell of a person.

I would struggle to get out of bed in the morning. I dreaded the activities of each day. I would do all that I could to avoid life and not have to deal with anything. I finally figured out why I was like this. It was because I had no hope! I had no goals or dreams of my own. I sacrificed my life for someone who did not appreciate me or what I was doing for them.

Now all of this has changed. I now have so much hope! I have numerous hopes goals and dreams and now I strive everyday to chase them! I write myself a to do list and everyday I work hard to work my way through my list. I look at each step as one more step closer to the life of my dreams.

What are those dreams you may ask? I would love to share them with you because I am very proud of my choices these days! I want to become a Life Coach, a Motivational Speaker, and a New York Times Best Selling Author. I am working on writing books about my former life as a Victim of Domestic Violence. I am studying for my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. I want to become a Life Coach and mentor Victims of Domestic Violence. In addition to this, I want to motivate and inspire women. I see myself becoming a modern day version of Louise L. Hay (Author of “You Can Heal Your Life.”) I want to make a difference by teaching Women that you do not need a man to complete you or define you in any way. I want teach the value of loving yourself first. Through my gift of writing and my articulate manner of speaking I choose to make a difference in the world.

I believe that if after the hell I have endured in my life that I can heal and change for the better that anyone can. I want to take my pain and suffering and turn it into a positive by using it to change lives for the better. I want more than anything to make a positive difference in the world. I feel that my purpose in life is to inspire and motive people to strive to become the best that they can be! Please check out my article on Purposefairy.com!

I am amazed when I look back to that day in October 17, 2011. It was one of the scariest days of my life. I have grown as a person so much since then. So many things have improved over the last several months. I still have a ways to go and work to do but I am already feeling like a new person.

To think that eight months ago I was very extremely suicidal and chronically depressed is surreal. To look inside myself today and compare me now to back then is amazing! I am a totally different person today! Some of my beliefs that I hold close to my heart now contradict the person I was last fall! This is a great thing!

I learn and I grow as a person each and every day! I do not believe in wasting time or missing a new learning experience! I strive every day to become a better person! I have totally different role models now! To say my life is so different is an understatement in itself!

I cannot get over just how much I have learned about myself and life. For the first time in my life I feel like an empowered woman and I must say that it feels amazing! It is very true that knowledge is power!

The most important thing I have learned recently is to trust myself and my intuition. It still takes some practice but just knowing that I can take care of myself now and do a good job is priceless. For the first time in my life I am learning to control my emotions which are helping me to become a better decision maker.

Another lesson I have recently learned is that life is what I make it. I choose my thoughts and how I feel. In the past when people tried to tell me that many of my problems were self-induced I got furious and wanted to tell them just how stupid they are! Who would want to live like I was living? Who would want to make their life the living hell mine was? What I failed to realize then that I have learned very recently is that your thoughts are like boomerangs. The universe is like a mirror. When I sit and dwell on the negative and all the bad things that can happen to me the universe reflects those thoughts right back to upon me. So my negativity was having the boomerang effect upon me. I was basically cursing myself and making my life the living hell that it was! Thoughts are very powerful! Our mind is even more powerful!

Now I operate my life in such a different way. The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is to count my many blessings! I do this every morning and every night before I go to bed! I show the universe my attitude of gratitude. I do this because if you are not appreciative for what you already have the universe will not see fit to bless you with more.

I now monitor my thoughts during the waking hours. I pay attention and correct myself when I think negative thoughts that will not serve my purpose. When I get scared, anxious, or stressed I say positive affirmations to myself. I remind myself that I am a beloved child of the universe and that universe takes care of me now and forever more. I envision the life I want and focus on success, prosperity, happiness, peace, and anything positive that will help me instead of harm me.

Every night I take the time to clear my mind of negative garbage and meditate. Meditation is priceless! You must always be kind to your mind! It is like changing the oil in your car. Your mind needs its own oil change to run properly and keep from burning up. You must clean it and rest it every night so that you can think clearly and more positively. Meditation does require consistent practice but is so well worth the effort.

I have learned that I can have as much control as I want in my life if I just take it and believe in myself. No one can make you do anything that you do not want to do! No one can make you feel in any way or think anything that you do not want if you stand firm and choose not to! It has been such a blessing to learn that I do control my own thoughts, feelings, and emotions and that I am safe in this world!

It is so empowering to learn that we are what we choose to be! I can play the victim or I can be a victim. It feels so much better to be a victor and a survivor rather than to be the poor defenseless victim now. It blows my mind now to realize just how many choices that I have in life now by just taking the time to think and learn about life!

Each and every day I learn to love myself and take better care of myself. We cannot love and take care of anyone else if we do not do this for ourselves first. My self-esteem and self-confidence grows with each and every day! I now wake up looking forward to the gifts that each new dawn brings with it!

I have learned to love and appreciate my life and I am truly happy now! Life is beautiful and joyous! I no longer take anything for granted!
